A brief biography on Joan Fredrickson, the writer of Honeycomb Studies

bulletJoan Bradley Fredrickson was born in Detroit and raised in Royal Oak, Michigan. She came to the Lord as a little child, publicly declared her faith at age 14, and deepened her commitment to Him at age 23.
bulletIn 1949, just a few months out of high school, she married Phil Fredrickson. In 1954 they started their family of four boys, and in 1961 the family transferred with Phil's job at General Motors to Santa Barbara, California.
bulletJoan's early ministry included teaching the Bible to small children in her church, and then to young mothers. In 1966, she trained with the Bible Study Fellowship Organization (BSF), serving first as an Administrative Assistant for three years, and then ten years as a Teaching Leader in the Santa Barbara Class. (Phil also served for eight years in the men's Santa Barbara Class as a discussion leader).
bulletIn 1979, Joan retired from BSF and began writing a series of Bible studies for her own use in home studies. She called them Honeycomb Studies (because God's Word is sweeter than honey and the honeycomb, Psalm 19:10) As many people began to ask for them, she decided to register Honeycomb Studies as a business in 1980. These Bible study lessons have now been in circulation and distributed to all who have called for them since that date. In 1980, Joan began teaching a class using the Honeycomb materials one evening a week at her church. Over the next 14 years it grew from 25 women to 450 men and women studying a new series each year and continued until 1994.
bulletRetirement from teaching weekly classes enabled Joan to do some retreat and conference teaching, at other churches, conferences (Forest Home) and college chapels. (Westmont College and Biola University Torrey Conference).
bulletJoan Fredrickson was a member, group leader, and occasional teacher at Santa Barbara Community Church, (Pastors Steve Jolley and Reed Jolley). Phil and Joan were married over 58 years, and have four sons and daughters-in-law, seven grandsons, eight granddaughters, and one great granddaughter.
bulletJoan went to be with the Lord, August 2007 after a 4 month battle with cancer. Her legacy lives on in her writings and she has passed her love of the Lord on to her family. Honeycomb continues to operate under the supervision of her daughter-in-law, Becky Fredrickson and her son, Mark.
